Chris Joly is a Petroleum Engineer with 37 years of technical, commercial and executive management experience gained with a number of international oil companies including Shell, BP and Vitol. Since retiring in 2016 to pursue new interests Chris has been investing and working in sustainable businesses, including renewable energy and the circular economy. He sits on the board of three start-up companies and mentors young entrepreneurs, also working as a STEM Ambassador lecturing astronomy in schools to encourage interest in STEM.

Brief description of session:

The search for life on Mars started with missions to establish whether conditions there are suitable for life today, or have existed in the past. That question has been answered (yes!) and now the search is on to find evidence of life itself using rovers and a small helicopter. Chris will talk about the search for life on Mars and the amazing Perseverance Rover Mission which got underway earlier this year.
