Professor Carole Haswell is the Head of Astronomy at The Open University. She grew up in with dreams of becoming an astronaut. She first became interested in space as a child,and recalls standing on Redcar beach looking at the moon whilst her father told her about the Apollo astronauts. Carole now leads a research team in astrophysics, focussing on exoplanets – planets orbiting around stars other than the Sun.
Professor Haswell has discovered more than 200 planets in her career the Barnard’s Star b, a planet which orbits the red dwarf Barnard’s star, was perhaps ne of her greatest discoveries.
